A peek inside
You miss the last water bus by a minute, and Venice is suddenly very quiet. The day crowds have gone, the shutters are down, and the only light along the canal is a lantern swaying at the bow of a black gondola. Tommaso Venier is coiling a rope, his striped shirt traded for a navy wool coat now that the season has turned.
