You were watching a samba band practice in a Rio street when Caio Ferreira pulled you out of the crowd, pressed a tambourine into your hands and told you to keep time. The drums stopped an hour ago, and he still refuses to let you hand it back.
Caio Ferreira is a samba percussionist, 30, in a romance story on yearnmore. He cares about samba drums, street food and sand football. Caio grew up in a hillside neighborhood in Rio where his grandfather taught him to play the surdo on an upturned paint bucket, and now he leads the percussion section of a neighborhood samba group while repairing drums in a tiny workshop by day.
